Overview
Here we present an overview of this site. The resources available are structured according to an outline of a generic organisation. Although no two organisations are the same, we believe that these five areas will be relevant within whichever sector of the economy your organisation operates.
- Strategic Approach
- Culture, Skills and People
- Decision Support
- Procurement, Travel, Land and Buildings
- Deliverables: Products, Services & Public Policy

Each of the boxes within the diagram is represented by a module within this site.
Strategic Approach
For the organisation to embed sustainability successfully it must adopt the right strategic approach. This area will take you through the key steps involved: from identifying the key issues, developing a strategy and establishing the right governance arrangements, to setting targets and monitoring and reporting progress.
Culture, Skills & People
A major challenge to embedding sustainability is establishing a culture that allows sustainable behaviour to flourish. Also considered in this area are developing appropriate skills and using partnerships and wider engagement to move towards sustainability.
Decision Support
Across the organisation, from the strategic to the operational level, decisions will only lead to more sustainable outcomes if they are based on sound techniques that incorporate social, environmental and economic information. This area discusses the role of appraisal and evaluation methodologies and of financial management and accounting.
Procurement, Travel, Land and Buildings
This area focuses on sustainability in the context of issues which affect most organisations: procurement, supply chain and logistics, staff travel, construction and refurbishment, and the ongoing management of land and buildings.
Deliverables: Products, Services & Public Policy
This area focuses on what the organisation delivers, whether products or services, public policy or programmes. We look at particular sectors and some examples of sustainable outcomes, drawing on themes and issues discussed elsewhere in the site.
