Challenges to overcome
My organisation does not have the capacity or resources to design and deliver our own sustainability courses, or the funding to engage consultants to do this for us.
The CSR Academy, housed by Business in the Community, has developed a CSR Competency Framework that can be used;
- as part of an organisation's performance review process;
- incorporated into an organisation's existing competency models;
- as a self development tool for targeted managers; or
- incorporated into an organisations handbook as part of a staff induction programme.
The BERR (formerly DTI)-funded 'Partners in Innovation' project provides a suite of training materials on sustainable construction and planning
Staff are unwilling to attend sustainability courses.
Staff will be unwilling to attend sustainability courses if they do not think they are relevant to their jobs or will help them to further their careers. An organisation needs to have a culture where sustainability is given prominence and priority, so that staff see gaining sustainability skills as part of their career progression. To explore how this can be achieved, see the Culture & behaviours module.
