How managing land and building well can help improve sustainability

Key points:

  • The WHE’s Central Energy Fund is helping to initiate energy saving projects which will help to reduce energy consumption by 15 per cent by 2010.

WHE has established a Central Energy Fund to provide finance to trusts for energy and carbon reduction measures.

The fund is a £3.1million three year programme. Trusts are able to apply for money for projects with a value not exceeding £75k, of which the Trust must commit to funding 30%, and with a simple payback period of less than 3 years. Each trust who successfully applies for funding must commit to setting up an internal "Invest to Save" fund into which the savings generated from the WHE-funded projects must be placed for re-investment. WHE estimates that the projects will deliver a primary energy saving of 15 per cent by 2010 for the NHS in Wales.
